1.What is “Grid Theory” and why is it important to web design? Ans: The grid is an essential tool for graphic design as well. The classical grid theory has influenced successful artistic efforts for thousands of years, i.e the concept of dividing the elements of a composition rather than single units. It refers to the pattern as the golden ratio or divine proportion. A line can be bisected using the golden ratio by dividing its length by 1.62. With this simple gridwork in place, we can begin to lay out our elements. Another tendency for non-designers working on layouts is to center-align everything on a page. The grid system prevents us from doing that, but there is a reason why we tend to want to center everything. That reason is a desire for balance. 2. In addition to “balance,” what are the other design principles important also to Web design? Ans: The other design principles which are essential are: Unity, Proximity, Repetition, Emphasis, Placement, Continuance, Isolation, Contrast and Proportion. 3. What are the “Bread and Butter Layouts” in web design? And: Left - Column Navigation, Right - Column Navigation & the Three Column Navigation are the Bread and Butter Layouts.
